-TIMES-NEWS (Mount Pulas 111.) THURSDAY, 21, BUILT WHITNEY FLATS LONG AGO (AprU 24, 1958) A great grandson of Samuel Whitney, one of the. Minutemen at the Battle of Concord, John W. Whitney was born in 1836 in Bol. I ton, Mass. He was educated at t Amherst and Harvard, emphasiz- ing particularly the sciences which w.ere then coming vogue. After several years s cessful efforts at orchard f rn in New Jersey, he came to Pulaski in 1878, establishing machine shop which was a success that he soon wealthy.
