By Coach Wernsing I guess you could say our 2011 golf season actually started in May this year, as there were a number of chipping practices held after school for those who were signed up for the 2011 tryouts. We started with 18 persons, including one gift who would be in the Junior class at high school. I have always said that anyone was welcomed to come and tryout, and was very happy to have a young lady try out also. Our actual tryouts were held beginning August 10 with some practice rounds at the Oaks on the East side of Spring- field. All this was happening at the same time that the State Fair was going on, with a number of my potential team members showing their cattle at the fair. I told them that the cattle showing was more impor- tant than the practices and wanted them to do well at the fair. After tryouts, we pared the team down to 6 varsity, 6 junior varsity, and 2 alter- nates. Golf Season Our team this year is made up of 3 Seniors: Ryan Amidon, Kyle Przyko- panski, and Christopher Wernsing. There are 7 Juniors: Janson Cooper, Andrea Dickerson, Shawn Knauer, Timothy Koe- hler, Bryan McCawley, Jacob Stoll, and Trenton Trump. We have 2 Sophomores: Marcus Hoock and Owen Tschantz. There are also 2 Freshmen: Matthew Amidon and Matthew Holmes. Our first match was with Macon- Meridian with our winning the match. Kyle Przykopanski was the medalist with a 37,1 over par. The next day, we lost to Hartem, even though Kyle was once again the medalist with a 2 under par of 34. On August 29, we took part in a quadrangular meet. We took two: LSA Decatur, and Okaw Valley, and lost to Greenview-Athens. That gave us a record of 3 and 2. At the Greenview-Athens Bulldog open, we finished 9th out of 15 teams. Kyle Przykopanski tied for 3rd place ;ndividual scores with a 77, and Owen Tschantz tied for 7th place with an 81. Our next match was a quadrangular meet at Crane Creek. We played IIIini Central, Hartem, and lIIini Bluffs. We won the quad meet with Owen Tschantz being the medalist with a 42. At this point, our record was 6 and 2. I was flab- bergasted.
