By Mike Lakin Superintendent Phil Shelton said it was time to leave the Sangamo Confer- ence since football scheduling was driv- ing game scheduling for the conference. The conference now has 12-teams in football. Supt. Shelton said that new schools being added all have football. On the list to be added are Auburn, Beardstown, and Pittsfield. All are quite a bit larger than Mt. Pulaski and travel to the schools in the conference is another factor. Supt. Shelton commented the enroll- ment spread has grown in the conference. Several schools have enrollments of 400 students and above. Another factor given by Shelton is that the schools added to the conference are not traditional rivals. The rivalry is an important factor. Mt. Pulaski, outside the Sangamo Conference, can schedule games as an independent school. This allows Mt. Pulaski to schedule matches - games with schools outside of the conference, but with enrollments similar to Mt. Pulaski. Supt. Shelton pointed out that Mt. Pulaski is still in the Tomahawk Confer- ence. This conference game scheduling is not driven to follow a football schedule. An additional benefit is that the geo- graphic area of the Tomahawk Confer- ence has less travel time involved. This reduces travel costs. How does this affect voUeyball? Supt. Shelton said Mt. Pulaski would continue to schedule games with its traditional rivals. Spent By Mike Lakin The annual residential sidewalk budget has been spent. To be considered for next year, contact City Hall to be placed on a list and to receive financial details on how the program works. Mt. Pulatki Times Salt Creek Attic ' -106 S. _ Washington t.
