National Bowling Trip to Reno -2013 ...... ' By Lorene Stoll Deana, Christy and I outof Peoria headed for Reno by way of Denver. Met up witlr some of our Bowling friends in Peoria, but they weren't on our flight. In Denver we met up with another bowling buddy who was On our flight into Reno. Got into Reno about lpm, got our luggage and then our car. We are staying at the Atlantis this year since it is close to the convention center where we are bowling. Since the men's tournament is at the Bowling stadium this year, the Bowling Congress is again rent- ing the local Convention Center and transforming part of it in to a bowling alley for the women's tournament. When we got to the hotel our rooms were not ready, so.we justhad tO gamble for a while. Then checked into our rooms-unpacked-relaxed for a while, then decided to drive around Reno. Then we drove to a local restaurant that we found several years ago for supper and their famous strawberry pie and other desserts. Then back to the hotel and bed, early, as it has been a long day. On Saturday "we slept in a little for us-ate breakfast at the flew Casino and then met our other bowlers at the convention center to check in-and make sure our balls had arrived. Our hotel is about 2 blocks from the con- vention center Then we left the convention Center and drove to Virginia City, which takes about half to three-quarters of an hour to get there. We really like to go there and do some shopping and just look around. Before we 4eft we decided to take a stage- coach ride. Now this is an old- fashioned stagecoach-just like they had in the old west and it is rough. A good pair of shocks would be a big improvement. The ride was really rough, but it was fun. It makes you wonder how the people of the old west could stand to travel in them for days at a time. Then we left Virginia City and.drove back to Reno and drove out to Sparks, a suburb of Reno, and gambles for a little while. Sparks is a pretty area and they have done a lot to make the area inviting. It looks very Victorian and is quite pretty. We drove past the University of Nevada - Reno, and some of the rest of Reno. Then we drove back to the downtown area and had supper before going back to the hotel. Sunday morn, we are up getting ready to bowl. We ate breakfast and then catch the shuttle bus to the convention center to bowl team this morn- ing. I bowled pretty well, but Christy and Deana both had a bad day. Back to the hotel to change clothes, then drove downtown ate a late lunch/ early supper, and then went to see the musical, Menopause. It was really good and funny. We laughed all the way thru the shove. Went back to the hotel and bed. It rained really hard while we were at the show; it has stopped flow. Monday we are bowling at 7 am, so we are up really early, as we have to be there one hour before bowl. I bowled OK and Christy and Deana bowled better than the day before. Went back to the hotel change clothes and then we drove up to lake Tahoe. We walked around and did some shopping then drove to Incline Village and then back to Reno. It rained on us at lake Tahoe and some on the way back Reno. We ate supper, fueled the car up with gas and back to the hotel for the night. Tuesday morning we are again up early to catch our flights. Deana is going to Orego n to visit with. her aunt Millie. Her flight is at 6am. Christy and I are going on tO Catalina Island, Ca. and our flight is at lam. We flew into long Beach and then took a cab to the Catalina Express boat dock. We had a on-hour ride by boat to the Island. We got a cab to our hotel and checked in. Got our room and settled in; : then went out for a walk b.round the area. We walked around the tourist area and shore areas, and then sat down and watched people and boats coming and going. We ate a late supper and back to our room for the night. We are both tired as it has been a long couple of days. Cont'd o-
