MIKE: As I was reading the newest edition of the Times, and enjoying all the pictures of the street festival, much to my surprise, I was looking at my house! I admit it took me a minute, then just laughed out loud at how I was admiring the picture. Thank you for adding that to your photos, it was a really good 4th of July: We found several treasures at the garage sales, walked up and had a deli- cious fried chicken dinner for lunch. Then had family over for a cook out and sat on that big front porch and totally enjoyed the evening and the fireworks. No need to leave town to cel- ebrate] Thanks again, Jackie Gehl- bach on Vine St. The caption read - JACKIE GEHLBACH'S home on North Vine was the picture of tradi- tional 4th of July... shaded by a big tree and the Flag on the tont porch Times Photo NEWSY:NOTES 49TH ANNUAL BRYSON REUNION was held Sunday, July 14, at 12:30pm at the Lake Fork Community Center. 60 people were present (2 more than last year and 23 more than two years ago): Delmar and Sue Stewart; Meredith (Dot) Bohn; Marinda and Larry Beccue; Yvonne and Bryson Beccue; Herman Roger Bohn; Diane Gideon; Donnie and Mary Riedle; Tom and Mary Ann Trago; Emma Stewart; Will Stewart; Walter and Delores Bryson; Betty and Dan Phillips; Harold Bryson; Bill and Phyllis Bryson; Gene and Jane Bryson; Gary Bryson; Anita Davis; Earl Phillips; Micah Bohn; Donna Petro; Phyllis Schafer; Kory, Melissa Jared Davis; Kris, Erin and Lydia Grace Davis; Judi Sanders & Katrina, Michelle, Marina &Ava; Cheryl Williams & Seth, Felicity, Adrielle, Janielle; Randy, Kelly: Andrew, Shelby, Stephanie Bailey; John, Dede & Paige Stewart; Bryson Taylor; Roberta & John Beecraft & Keigan Hoster, Brian Beecraft; and Rob Keller. Next year's reunion will be held at the same place July 13, 2013, TRNIA QUESTION: There were several responses to the last question: 'What year did Abraham Lincoln first visit Mt. Pulaski?' Unfortunately, none of them were correct. According to the folks at the Mt. Pulaski Township Historical Society, the first recorded evidence of Abraham Lincoln being in Mt. Pulaski was 1849, since he had been serving as an Illinois Representative to the United States Congress during the years, 1847-48. In 1849, Mr. Lincoln then joined the traveling Illinois 8th Judicial Circuit Court, which had been stopping at the Logan Court House in Post- ville, but which had beenjaaoved to Mt. Pulaski during his service years in Congress. But, there is a possibility that he came to Mt. Pulaski before that time when he was doing survey-work out of Springfield, If anyone has evidence that he came to Mt. Pulaski before 1849, please send it along ! Here's the new (This should get a lot of quick responses!) -- In what year was the Court House in Mt. Pulaski built? UNDER THANK YOU To Our Community Volunteers (July 15 Courthouse News): There's a name missing of a lady who does so very much in the com- munity for others and is seldom mentioned. I think she should be included in this group of vol- unteers. I am talking about PHYLLIS HAWK. She took it upon herself to deliver many of these food items to folks who could not come to get them or was unable to do so. In some instances, she delivered them, carded them into their homes, and stowed the items on shelves in their homes. She spent her time, effort, and provided the trans-- portation to do all this at her own expense. I do believe she deserves to be included too...
