By Mike Lakin Alderman Darrell Knauer is so sure that the city will save money on the city electric bill, on its contract with the AMEREN subsidiary, that he wants to make a good-natured bet with Alderman Randy Reeter. Me bet Randy a steak dinner - to be paid for by Randy - if the city saves money. So far, Randy has declined to take the bet. Heard this one July 21 - Only God can forgive terrorists. Orl January 1,201! a new Illinois law will give Purple Heart recipients the chance to obtain specialty Purple Heart plates, for their motorcycles. In addition o residents entitled to it, will Senate candidate Mark Kirk make this his newest military claim? City Hall and the garages had tuck-pointing and brickwork done the week of July 19. We can chalk this one. up to "a lesson learned". The work shut down access to City Hall the same week water bills came out. Folks .were stymied as to how they would get in to pay their water bills. Some people braved the construction debris to find the door blocked by a sheet of plywood or locked. We now know - don't schedule major work on City Hall the same week the water bills come out. The work is done and'City Hall and the garages look real spiffy.
