The American Civil War (locally known as the War of the Southern Rebellion) had commenced and Mt. Pulaski - like the rest of the country - was otherwise engaged. The 50th Celebration was held in 1886. Records show 15,000 people attended the celebration. One comment was the crowd was drawn to Mt. Pulaski to see a rare sight.., a woman aeronaut. "Mrs. Williams" dressed in her flying suit was one of the first women balloonist. She was injured after one of her Mt. Pulaski flights when the descending balloon struck a tree, knocking her from the bal- loon basket and she broke her ankle. She resumed her flights shortly after having The 75th Celebration was held in 1911. The celebration included an ice cream social, several brass bands played, and a contingent of the Illinois National Guard ddUed for the crowd. The 100th Celebration was held in 1936. Tom Martin's grandfather- Harry Wible - helped organize the celebration and participated in a pageant about the founding of Mt. Pulaski. A daughter of Jabez Capps portrayed her mother. Harry Wible portrayed Jabez Capps. Two of Jabez Capp's children were honored. A member of the Wible-Martin family has been involved in planning the 100th, 125th, 150th, and - now- the 175th. While not an anniversary celebration, the 1971 Mt. Pulaski 4th of July had her injury attended to. almost 10,000 people in attendance. Mt.
