BAND CONCERT (Continued from page 1) which was a most number and is rated as A piece on the college band played it to chorus under of Mrs. Joan Ritch. Presented two delightful llumb ers, "Love and "Close To You". of the chorus presented with a bouquet following their per- tremendous performance by Richard Matta as trumpet the band in a piece "Trumpet Concerto", wu written especially for leading trumpet play- the world today, "Doc" was presented to from the band mern- his outstanding work grade school band and the brass instruction he gives to both grade and high school students. The band presented Mr. Tan- ner with a plaque for his many accomplishments and for his devotion and dedicated work with the band. He received a standing ovation from the audi- ence. Mr. Tanner presented the John Philip Sousa Award to two Senior members of the band who best exemplified the quali- ti that make up an ou.tstapding band student and band member. This year Julian StoLl and Randy Cowan were recipients of this award. 'IIE :DULE Carol Manes has announced skating has now been discon- tinued for the summer at the Recreation Center. Starting June 14, there will be open swimming, 1:00 p.m. tp 9:00 p.m. daily at the pool. 8HOIffHOI &U'JDE/M The Logan County Shorthorn Lassie Auxiliary met at the Hotel in Lincoln for a luncheon and business session. The Shorthorn Lassie Auxil- iary is promoting Shorthorn in- terest in this area. The organiza- tion is responsible for selecting a girl from this district as a Lassie Queen candidate, who will compete for the State Lassie Queen at the State Fair. Mrs. Tony Wieber of Elkhart is president of the Auxiliary. Other officers elected at the recent meeting are: Mrs. Wm. Anderson, Elkhart, vice presi- dent; Mrs. Dale Davis, Mt: Pula- ski, secretary; and Mrs. Clarence Winkelmann, Chestnut, trea- surer.
