May 1"t, Abigail - of Chestnut - ran in the Half Marathon of the Illinois Mara- thon. Last July, Abigail (U of I junior) ran the MLB All Star Game 5k in St. Louis and three days later had foot surgery. She had her right foot in a cast for eight weeks last summer. Her doctor told her that she couldn't run 3 miles within a year. Abigail decided that she could still run 3 miles. Plus 10 more. Last August, the cast came off. She then had physical ther- apy for about 2-3 months. Abigail started training for the Half Marathon in Janu- ary. May 1~t, Abigail completed her first half- marathon in 2:09.49. The race started on the west side of Memorial Stadium and it ran 13-miles through Champaign and Urbana. The finish line was the 50-yard line at Memorial Stadium. Abigail fin- ished her run to prove a point. She'll be letting her doctor know of her accom- plishment. She'll even be sending him a picture. In a news article in the Champaign News-Gazette. writer, Rick Danzl called Abigail "The Comeback Kid" for her per- sonal accomplishment. Abigail is a junior at the University of Illinois, College of ACES. She is an Agri- cultural Communications Major, concen- trating in advertising. At lV[t.
