MPGS 8th Grade Class Takes a Mission to Mars (Disclaimer: Keep in mind, this was a simulation. Nothing in this article actually happened on Mars.) On Wednesday, April 1, the 8th grade class took a field trip to the Challenger Learning Center at Heartland College in Normal, Illi- nois. The class participated in a Mission to Mars simulation. To prepare for the mission, students completed STEM (Science Tech- nology Engineering and Math- ematics) lessons in their Technol- ogy Class with Mrs. Fricke. The objectives of their mission were to complete a crew exchange on Mars and to launch research probes to the moons of Mars (Phobos and Deimos). The crew exchange was completed and one of the probes was successfully assembled and launched for its original purpose. The Crew had to think fast to re- program a portion of the second probe in order to use it for a rescue mission for fellow astro- nauts stranded near Olympus Mons. Also, the Life Support Team was tasked with soMng a criti- cal Oxygen depletion issue on the Mars Transport Vehicle. Cont'fl on Page 3 9" 2 I==t 10 0 I=a oi
