By Mike Lakin I have always had an appre- ciation for stuff. Old stuff. Stuff that looks like it had a purpose and served that purpose well. That's why I wonder .the field when the Lake Fork Commu- nity Center Auction is held. The "Prairie Archeologist" in me just likes looking for stuff that looks interesting. I'm not look- ing to buy; I have enough inter- esting stuff- to me anyway - as it is. The Lake Fork Center, at auction time, is a temporary museum of stuff. Some of-the stuff, like the Bobcat, gave me an, I could have used that. Last year I rebuilt the" patio using con- crete pavers and roadpack all moved by hand or wheelbar- row. A Bobcat would have been handy. Some are tools and utensils whose time, has passed, but are still interesting. Such as the old parlor stove. There's still evidence our house had three parlor stoves when it was built in 1872. They were probably similar. Others were just'plain inter- esting machines. I have no idea what the machine was that has all the gears, "wheels,'sprock- ets, and belts. But even just sit- ring there, it begs you to take it apart to see how it all went together to create such apiece. I snapped the photo of the old Singer treadle sewing machine just because they are'becoming rarer. And what happened? I found a second Guess they may not be as rare as I thought. Just samples of what caught my eye... .1
