12 By Mike Lakin You couldn't miss it if you tried. A crowd gathered on the West Side of the Mr. Pulaski Square March 24 about 11AM. They were there to watch the raising of The Farmers Bank's new wind turbine. Now, point of fact, about half the crowd was on the Courthouse side of the street. Why? Well, as one sidewalk superintendent said, "if something went wrong, I don't want to be too close". All went well. The 120' tower plus wind turbine is a, can't be missed structure. Rick Volle said a web earn would be on the tower. You'll be able to tune it to it at the bank website farm-bank.com in the future. There will also be a weather station on the tower, accessible at the web- site. John Wyss - owner of Central Illinois Wind and Solar- said a new piece of technology is included on this turbine. The output of the turbine will be monitored by a wireless connection on the tower. Once this tower is completed, John said a wind turbine tower would be going up near" Latham. The raising of the tower froIn between the commercial buildings didn't take much time at all. Once the legs were bolted down. John Wyss strapped on his safety harness and headed up to release the crane from the tower and checked out the turbine. When he came back down, he stepped back, and breathed a sigh of relief. In fact, we all did. As previously reported in the City Council news, the wind tur- bine will be saving the bank several thousand dollars a year on its utility bill. f.,. 4 ! )elm 217.519.3162 -- 105 E.
