Senior-of-the-Month Mt. Pulaski High School A Mt. Pulaski resident, Andrew is the son of Richard McCarty and Robyn McCarty. In high school Andrew has been active in Student Council, Spirit Squad and FFA. He is a four-year member of the Toppers base- ball team. He also played Lincoln Legion baseball and Mt. Pulaski Junior Legion baseball. Andrew is a member of the Mt. Pulaski Christian Church youth group, and the Millennium Clovers 4-H club. Andrew plans to attend Southern Illinois University in Carbon- dale to major in Animal Science. The Senior-of-the-Month program is co-sponsored by Johnson's Food Center and Mt. Pulaski Pharmacy. Monthly winners receive $100 savings bonds and are eligible to compete for the $1000 Senior- of-the-Year award. After the March School Board meeting (front page) I received this comment from a reader that attended the meeting... "We saw decisions made. But not enough of the rational. Not saying they were wrong. Just not sure how they arrived at these cuts and not others I want to see the expenditures for sports. How nmch does the vocational pro- gram cost? No one asked. How much does the golf program/ agreement cost? No one asked." I'd guess you'd say this inquir- ing reader wanted to know. Police Chief Lynn Freer said : the Koala Bear & Cub has a new home. The police department donated the duo to Moochelle's Kid Kare. Chief Freer noted the duo had exceeded his pet food budget while they were held in custody. Internal Revenue Service filing season statistics show that more than 82 percent of the 69 million returns received so far this year have come invia e-file. Illinoisians have filed more than 2.9 million federal tax returns and about 81 percent have been e-filed. E-file from a home computer is up more than 6 percent compared to the same time period last year. Paper tax filings have almost come to a complete end. All this in just 15-years.
