15 O Ir I,.t 00 ,o O Re Mr. Pulaski Grade School 25-12 and 25-12. Submitted by JC Tomas scored the title in a victory over mini Central in two games, SCOTT DOERR Cont~d From Page 13 Third, curriculum development and professional development (teacher training) for teachers in an effort to strategically teach the Common Core Standards is vastly impor- tant. We want students to gain knowledge and content through standards in order to meet the critical thinking and rigorous requirement set forth in an effort to prepare students for careers and college. Lastly, I believe that the funding issue is cause for great concern. I find it increasingly interesting that the district budget is all of the sudden showing a deficit. Yes, General State Aid has been prorated, but for a district that is not overly dependent on GSA, the difference is not that contrasting. We need to find ways to make reductions in the budget that does not immensely impact the educational needs of students. Therefore, my decision to run for the schoolboard is based on a desire to provide the best education not only for my kids, but for all kids. In addition, to ensure that decisions are based on data, financial means, legal terms, and transparency. What do you think is the relationship between the disldct and the public? The relationship between the district and the public is indifferent. Communication and strategic planning that involves the public is essential in the development and sus- tainability of the district. Allowing parents and community leaders to be involved in decision-making abilities would provide effective leadership skills between the district and the public. The public must have a. feeling of trust and collaboration before new initiatives and decisions can take place effectively. What a ;e your positions-if any-on textbook adoption, extracurricular activities, curriculum standards, and construction of new school facilities? I feel that a textbook adoption policy should be in place through a rotating cycle every 5-7 years. However, I understand that financial constraints may limit this goal. I believe that schools should be moving towards interactive textbooks (ebooks) through the use of technology, which requires a vast amount of training for teachers. I believe that the new Common Core Standards are a good way for schools to develop a cur- riculum that is comprehensive for all students, which requires students to develop a deeper, richer understanding of content through rigorous activities and teaching strate- gies. Standards allow for a curriculum alignment, which permits all students (PK- 12) to obtain information and content in a linear fashion. Construction of new school facili- ties must be carefully weighed on several factors such as age and condition of buildings, student needs and population, and funding. I believenew schools should be funded either through existing funds or through referendum of the citizens within the district. What do you want the voters to know about your candidacy?. I am dedicated to the educational process while allowing kids to gain the klaowledge and skills necessary to make them productive members of society. As an educator and administrator, I feel that my knowledge and experience will provideme an excellent opportunity to conduct the business of the people for this district in professional, legal, and ethical manner. I promise to make decisions that are in the best interest of not only the district, but in the best interest of kids.
