MPTHS March 2012 Meeting Quilt ]E'undraiser- Museum Reg..Opens The Mt. Pulaski Township His- torical Society's March meeting was attended by 17 members. Several new members were welcomed by new MPTHS Presi- dent, Sue Shaffenacker. The other officers for the coming year are: Joyce Maxheimer- Recording Secretary; Gini Bertoni - Mem- bership; Tom Stephens: - Trea- surer; Phil Bertoni - Publicity. It was announced that there are 28 Blue Books left (History of Mt. Pulaski: 1836-1986) and 104 Red Books (History of Mt. Pulaski: 1987-2011). The Mt. Pulaski sports wall- hangings that were displayed in The Lite Company were given to the museum by Pat Butkovich for museum's sports display room. One display is that of Dr. Forest Lincoln Mainstreet - Looking for Lincoln event is at the Maple Club Sunday, March 18 at I pm. This year, the Looking for Lin- coln event will have each com- munity share a story about a fact, event or person in the community that had a significant impact, but is not well known to others in Logan County. Representatives from the Mt. Pulaski Township Historical 1 bedroom apartment / C. Van Hook (MPHS graduate in 1905), who was the very first 3- time All-Western ("All-American" was not yet used) football player Looking for Lincoln Event 12 (lineman) at the University of Illi- nois in 1906-07-08 (he captained the U of I team in 1908). He later graduated from Northwestern Medical School and established his practice back in his hometown of Mt. Pulaski. Many of us know his grandchildren: Jo Ann, Mary Ann and Bob Van Hook. The society's first fundraiser of the year will be a colorful quilt on which Maxine Downing and Dolly Buckles worked together in the museum, using an 1800s quilt rack that is for used for display, otherwise. The quilt's design uti- i Society, Mt. Pulaski Looking for Lincoln Committee, Mt. Pulaski Rotary, and Mt. Pulaski Court- house Foundation nominated GREG and PAM ERLEN- BUSH MAUS. Over the years,, they have been instrumental in the Mt. Pulaski Boy Scout Troop 122 - producing many Eagle Scouts. Many of these Scouts and Eagle Scouts have enlisted in the Armed Forces. : lizes an old "Broken Star" fabric pattern that Wally Kautz donated to the museum - it had belonged to Walty's grandmother. The ladies stitched and stitched (over 200 hrs.), using lots of cotton-filler backing for each design, complete with a bright-green cotton border. The result is a beautiful and cozy full-bed quilt cover. Raffle tickets will soon go on sale for the quilt, $1 each, 6 for $5. Meetings will be at 6:30 pm in the museum on the last Mon- days of each month, except for May when it will be moved up a week due to Memorial Day. The museum has now re-opened for its Spring, Summer and Fall times - Tues through Sat (Noon - 4 pm). For more information, call Sue: 792-5693 or Joyce: 792-5723. Our town's museum is full of old family, business, school, sports and music treasures! It was noticed that the quilt was whisked away after the meeting for safekeeping elsewhere! Pulaski VFW Meetings The Monday March 12 Mt. Pulaski VFW meeting is canceled due to Stag. The next meeting is Monday April 9 with a potluck at 6pm and the meeting is at 7pm.
