Pulaski High School Hilltoppers basketball team will be recognized at half- time of the Varsity game Friday, February 20. That team con- sisted of players Willie Rent- meister, Larry Bowles, Gary Schmidt, Mike Schultz, Bruce Dannenberger, Bob Cardoni, Mike Connolley, Leslie Braun, Bob Van Hook, Mike Kennedy and Allan Moore. The managers were Roger Murphy and Robert Taylor. The Assistant Coach was Don Olson and the Head Coach, in his first year at Mt. Pulaski High School, was Ed Butkovich. According to Mrs. Butkovich, "Ed inherited a great team when he got here." The team won the Turkey Trot Tournament and Mt Pulaski Holiday Tournament that season and clinched the Regional Championship. As the team advanced to the sectionals they had the opportunity to play at the Bradley University Rob- ertson Memorial Fieldhouse. In sectional action they faced defending state champions, Pekin Chinks. Hilltoppers fell to Pekin ending their season 21-6. All was accomplished in the days of the "one, class system:" The team from 1965 made the community proud and it will be a thrill to honor these guys after 50 years.
