This past semester, the Mt. Pulaski FFA Chapter has been very busy learning about and promoting agriculture. In late August, over 40 FFA members attended the 2011 Farm Progress Show in Decatur. There, our members had the opportunity to visit a variety of tents that pro- moted different agricultural related products. Our members also competed in an array of different Career Devel- opment Events including: Land Use, Food Science, Agronomy con- tests at Section 14, Lincoln Land Community College, and the State Agronomy contest at the University of Illinois, and the Section 14 Par- liamentary Procedure contest. The Parliamentary Procedure team received second place in sec- tion and will be competing in the district competition February 15 at John Wood Community College at Perry, Illinois. We also spent time this semester harvesting are FFA corn plots; the money gained from the plots will go towards maintain- ing our chapter. A few members had the chance to attend the 2011 National FFA Con- vention; there they had the privilege to attend a rodeo, sessions, the career show, and other fun activi- ties. Two of the members competed there in the Ag Science Fair. Just before Christmas the FFA chapter and Cooperative Work Training class joined forces and per- formed a food drive all throughout Mt. Pulaski. Monsanto in Illiopolis sponsored the event. All in all, we had .a great first semester and are eager to continue our activity into this next semester. National FFA Week February is slowly creeping towards us and that means some- thing very exciting in the FFA world. One of the last weeks in February (Feb. 20 - 24) is National FFA Week. National FFA Week is a week in which FFA members pro- mote agriculture to the public. Why at the end of February? Because this week encompasses George Washington's Birthday. During this week, we have a lot of fun things in store. We will be having dress-up days for the high school, as well as the beloved Tractor Day. Also, this year, we will be hosting a petting zoo for grade school students in the community. We are all very enthusiastic to produce an educational, promotional, exciting National FFA Week, Mt. Pulaski style. 10 1st Semester Mt. Pulaski FFA Highlights BSAA class harvesting the Ag Plot.
