I--TIMES-NEWS, Mount Pulaski, Ill., THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 1961 Predict It Yourself Weather 'Old Hat' At Ft. Huochuca Ft. Huachuca, Ariz. (AFPS) -- The "Do It Your- self" craze is far from dead, but has just about reached the "ultimate" at the U.S. Army Electronic Proving Ground here. The Army's Meteorology De- partment has installed in the lobby of Greely Hall, the Proving Ground's main technical building, a weather briefing display console that enables the viewer to brief himself on current weather condi- tiorm and draw his, own conclu- sions on the weather forecast. A large surface weather mao. a national weather resume, a local forecast for those who want the official word, the day's total (when there is any) rainfall, and a running total of the annual rainfall are all posted each morning. Across the top of the console are dials which indicate the cur- rent outside temperature, wind direction and velocity, plus at- mospheric pressure. The console was designed and installed under the direction of Col. Eric R. Osborne, chief of the Meteorology Department, and civilian meteorlogist Glerm E. Daniels. The display attracts daily at- tention from the nearly 1,000 per- sons who work in Greely Hall as well as the many visitors who come to the Proving Ground.
