February 5, 2011 Mt. Pulaski Times American Legion National Vice Commander Visits Mt. Pulaski 11 National American Legion Vice Commander John M. Mella (Iron Mountain, MI) along with Illinois State and District Legion dignitaries visited Mt. Pulaski American Legion Ryman-Fuiten Post 447 for lunch and program. Commander Phil Bertoni welcomed the officials with a history of Mt. Pulaski and a history of the Mt: Pulaski Post that was organized and char- tered in May of 1920. Bertoni introduced former Post 447 Commanders: Joe Lucas, Bill Rentmeister, Alan Roos and Tom Romer. Ladies Auxil/ary President, Marge Caley, was introduced, as was current SAL Squadron 447 Commander Mike Richner, and Jeff Laatsch, who was the first Mt. Pulaski SAL Com- mander in 1984. Past Ladies National American Legion Vice Commander John M. Mella speaking with Alan Roos and Roger Bates. Auxiliary 447 President, Phyl- lis Beccue, was introduced and spoke about the Pulaski House program. She pointed out $1,000 has been raised toward this project--with $239 coming from the Mt. Pulaski Elementary School children, and additional household sup- plies provided by Mt. Pulaski's Dollar General and Mt. Pulaski Food Center. Alan Roos commented that, every bit of fifty people, were in attendance. Attendees from surrounding American Legion Posts presented their Legion membership renewals. Alan added that Phil Bertoni did a very good job in getting people to the meeting.
