Logan County coroner, Robert Thomas, said Mr. Graft was pronounced dead at 5:10 a.m. Monday (January 18), when his body was found at his home. Dr. John Ralston in Spring- field performed the autopsy. The preliminary findings from the autopsy are that Mr Graft died from smoke and soot inha- lation. The fire was first seen by a commuter on his way to work. Chestnut, Mt. Pulaski, Latham and Cornland Fire Depart- ments and EMS responded to the call at the home located between Beason and Chest- nut. Logan County Sheriff Dep- uties also responded to the call. Believing it was a struc- ture fire; the deputies left the scene. The fire was mainly confined to a shed next to a mobile home. At first, it appeared no one was home.
