7 m =1 ,= q I,=t to O i,=l ol Celebrating 100 years! Aurelia Stoll, a Chesmut native, will celebrate a special = birthday milestone-very soon. . Aurelia was bom January 20, ,. 1915 to Otto and Lillie (Dittus) Stoll. At the age of eleven, she was thrilled to finally welcome baby brother Hubert into their small family. Five years later, Aurelia's mother Lillie died, so Aurelia assumed her mother's household duties, including raising her little brother. She was the lady in charge at the family farm for eighteen years until Hubert married (Nancy) Jean Hatcher in 1949. Aurelia and her father moved to town where she continued to pro- vide care for her father until he passed away in 1969. Because Aurelia never mar- fled, she happily served Hubert and Jean and their growing family. The Stolls provided her with eight nephews and nieces: Dennis - Chesmut, Cheryl- Mt. In early years, Aurelia directed the butchering and dressing of the farm chickens, assisted with the family garden, and sewed numerous outfits for her neph- ews and nieces. She even found time to make clothing for her nieces' dolls. The Stoll chil- dren recall many an extra-spe- cial sleepover at Aunt Aurelia's house in town. In the 1950s, Aurelia took a job as cook at a restaurant in downtown Chestnut. Other places of employment included a discount store in Clinton and the Chestnut Post Office. In 1973, she was hired as a cook for the Vondeflieth Living Center that was just opening in Mt. Pulaski. She worked there for several years before retiring. When Aurelia's father passed away, she was finally able to do some traveling with a few friends, including Louise West, Norma Stoll, and Florence Stoll. Chestnut for at least 90 years. In the 1980s, Aurelia initi- ated a tradition of delivering a bucket of her homemade cook- ies to each family member for their birthday; by this time, in addition to Hubert and Jean, there were eight nephews and nieces, five new in-laws, and nine great-nephews and nieces. If she were able to continue her birthday cookies tradition today, she would be delivering seventy-three buckets a year! Aurelia's most recent gifting mission was to make a quilt for the home of each of her eight nephews and nieces. Mission accomplished! For those who would like to help Aurelia celebrate, she would so enjoy a birthday greet- ing.
