January 22, 2011 Scholarship Competition State Bank of Lincoln announces a scholarship' competition for Illinois high school seniors to enter a statewide essay-writing contest. It is part of a program sponsored by Illinois com- munity banks and the CBAI Foundation for Community Banking to increase public awareness of locally owned banks and their contribu- tions to the community. A scholarship in the amount of $1,000 a year for up to four years of higher education will be awarded to the author of the best essay submitted to the CBAI Foundation by a partici- pating Illinois high school senior. Up to 12 additional $1,000 awards are available in each of the regions of the state. An additional $500 will be awarded to the high school of the overall winner. The bank is working with Mt. Pulaski High School and area high schools to invite seniors to submit short essays on the theme: How does a community bank help a community to grow? The Oasis Senior Center of Lincoln, in coop- eration with Vonderlieth Living Center, will be offering online tax submission assistance at Vonderlieth. While the Oasis is not qualified to offer tax advice, they are able to assist those seniors with simple tax returns to submit them electronically. This is a service being offered free of charge. Please call the Oasis at 732-6132 to schedule an appointment. Dates that they will be available in Mt. Pulaski' are February 22 and March 22. Another day may be added if there is a demand for it.
