E. Opal Poffenbarger, 91, of Mt. Pulaski died January 7, Poffenbarger 2010 at Vonderlieth Living Center at 11:17Am. Funeral Ser- vices were held Monday January 11 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mt. Pulaski. Bill Shanle officiated. Burial was in Lake Bank Cemetery. Her Parents, Husband, infant Daugh- ter - Wanda; Six Sisters, Three Brothers and a Grandson pre- ceded her in death. Mrs. Poffenbarger was a Homemaker. She was born March 30, 1918 in Hawesville, Kentucky a daughter of Webster and Deli- lah Craig Butler. She married Oscar Poffenbarger on Aug 28, 1938 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1998. Survivors Include - Sons - John (Janice) Poffenbarger of Mt. Pulaski and James (Cheryl)Poffenbarger of Mt. Pulaski; Daugh- ters - Nancy (Bill) Shanle of Mt. Pulaski and Janet (John) Cherry of Elkhart: Eight Grandchildren: Seven Great - Grandchildren: and Two Step-Great-Grandchildren. Mrs. Poffenbarger was a member of the Buffalo Christian Church. Memorials: Mt. Pulaski EMS or Vonderlieth Living Center. Ed Francis Roher, 70, of Spring- field, formerly of Mt. Pulaski, died January 10, 2010 at St. John's Hospi- tal at ll:22Pm. Funeral services were Friday January 15at Fricke-Calvert- Schrader Funeral Home, Mt. Pulaski. Mark Weber officiated. Burial was in Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. His Parents and One Sister preceded him death. Mr. Roher was a Truck Driver. He was born February 19, 1939 in Mt. Pulaski the son of John Clancy and Marguerite I. Guffey Roher. He mar- ried Katherine Dumire on December 23, 1963 in Gorman, Maryland. Survivor Include - Wife - Kather- ine Roher of Springfield; Daughters - Tina (Paul) Koehne of Springfield and Mary (Timothy) Knott of Springfield; Son - John (Tina) Roher of Curran; Sister - Linda (Wendell) Milner of Fancy Prairie: and Borther - Lonnie Roher of Auburn: Ten Grandchildren and One Great-grandchild. Funeral Services were held Saturday, January 9 at the Holy Family Church of Lincoln with the Rev. John Pham officiating. Columbarium inurnment with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. Harold was pre- ceded i n death by his parents, Henry and Helen (Amberg) Dirks; his wife, Bette Talkin Dirks; and sister, Helen Mary Barrow. Mr. Dirks was born December 30, 1922 in Lincoln. After returning from military service, Harold worked for Nabisco Services and then managed the Spurgeons store in Iowa and later the store in Lincoln. He opened The Dollar Store in 1962. He was always an entrepreneur - as he even s.ofd electric cars in 1975. Survivors - Sons - Bradley (Joy) Dirks of Valparaiso, Indiana and Jef- fery (Linda) Dirks of Mt. Pulaski; Daughter - Marcia (Kentofi) Stoll of Chestnut: 2 Brothers - Henry Dirks of Kewanee and Ronald Dirks of Lovington; Sisters - Phyllis (Lloyd) Leesman of Lincoln and Joyce Anderson of Springfield; Seven Grandchil- dren and Two Great grandchildren. Mr. Dirks was a member of the Holy Family Church of Lin- coln. He volunteered at the Carmelite Convent in St. Louis, and assisted in a mass for the Pope in St. Louis. Mr. Dirks served in the U.S. Army - 625 Engineer Equipment Company, during World War II in England, Germany, France, Belgium and the Philippine Islands. His service awards include 2 Overseas Service Bars, the American Campaign Medal, and the World War IYVictory Medal. Harold was a life-long member of the Elks Lodge, past member of the Rotary Club, and instrumental in Lincoln's downtown development. He was devoted to his grandchildren - he loved to track their activities and bragged on them often. Memorials: The Friendship Manor, Lincoln. Barbara Jean Costley of San Diego, California, beloved wife, mother and sister, passed away December 31, 2009 at her home in San Diego wit h her family by her side, after a long and valiant .battle with Parkinson's " disease and bone cancer. Barbara, the daughter of Ninnian and Lillian Larson, Elkhart, was born in Lincoln in September of 1926 and spent her young life on a farm southeast of Elkhart, graduat- ing from Elkhart Community High School with the class of '44. She marriedMaurice Costley (Bill) of Virden on September 12, 1948, eventually moving to San Diego in 1957. In addition to her loving hus- band, she is survived by her daugh- ters, Peg (Mike) Frye and Pamela (Tom) Ferraro and five grandchil- dren: Christian, Marissa, Christina Frye along with Nicholas and Matthew Ferraro as well as her sister Donna (Richard) Clif- ton. Barbara, from 1963 until her retirement in 1992, served first as Director of Admissions and later as Registrar for the Califor= nia Western School of Law in San Diegol where she was affec- tionately known as "Mrs. C." Graveside services were January 19 in the'Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery, Point Loma area of San Diego, California. Doris Mae Diez, 83, of Mt. Pulaski died January 9, 2010 at Memorial Medical Center at 5:37Pm. Funeral Services were Thursday, January 14 at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mt. Pulaski. Rev. Vaughn Beeman officiated. Burial was in Mt. Pulaski Cemetery. Her Parents; Hus- band; Brothers- Albert Moore, Louis Moore, Harold Moore; and Sisters - Louise Bowles, Pauline Huston, Col- leen Wilcockson, Geraldine Schroth, and Kay Kinnett preceded her in death. Mrs. Diez was retired from Lehn and Fink after 27 Years of Service. She was born February 25, 1926 in Mt. Pulaski the daughter of Louis and Flossie Mac Jones Moore. She mar- ried Oliver L. Diez on November 2, 1945 in Lincoln. He preceded her in death on November 11, 2001. Survivors Include - Sister - Betty Swick of Wilmington; Sister in Law - Gladys Moore of Mt. Pulaski; and loving Nieces and Nephews. Mrs. Diez was a member of the First Christian Church of Mt. Pulaski. She was a also a member of the Mt. Pulaski VFW Aux- iliary. Mrs. Diez loved gardening and her flowers. Memorials: First Christian Church of Mt. Pulaski or the Vonderlieth Activities Department.
